BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A city official in Brunswick has been arrested on charges of willfully obstructing law enforcement and influencing a witness in the case involving a 13-month-old boy who was fatally shot last week.

Alan David Tucker, an attorney representing Brunswick city commissioner and mayor pro tem James Henry Brooks Sr., said Brooks was arrested for stepping between police and the mother of 17-year-old suspect De'Marquise Elkins when police tried speaking with her during a court appearance Monday.

A judge granted Brooks $5,000 bond Friday.

Tucker said Brooks "picked the wrong ones to go to bat for" in the case and that his client regrets trying to help the suspect's mother. Tucker also said his client did nothing criminal.
