ATLANTA -- 11Alive morning anchor Melissa Long recently got the unique opportunity to be transformed into one of the most beloved characters of the stage and screen.
The national touring production of Mary Poppins is currently playing in Atlanta, and Melissa stepped backstage to learn how to become the "practically perfect" British nanny.

First, Melissa visited the hair and makeup supervisor, who put her hair in pin curls to anchor Mary Poppins' wig and then covered her hair with a stocking cap.
To complete the look, Melissa applied Mary Poppins' traditional red lipstick.
The title character's wardrobe is full of Edwardian-style dress. Melissa put on Mary Poppins' Supercalafragalisticexpialadoshus outfit, which transported her back to London circa 1910.
The final step was mastering Mary Poppins' accent. Cast member Lindsey Bliven helped Melissa channel her inner British nanny.
Mary Poppins will play at the Fox Theatre through Apr. 7.
