ATHENS, Ga. -- A police motorcycle officer is recovering from serious injuries after he was injured in a collision with a taxi near downtown Athens.

Authorities say Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer Kenneth Beavers sustained a concussion, a broken leg and a facial injury in the Monday night crash. Beavers was being treated at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class C.E. Parker said no one had been cited in the wreck as of Tuesday while authorities continue to investigate. The State Patrol investigations collisions that involve a county-owned vehicle.

The accident investigators plan to review footage from the downtown surveillance camera system to see if it captured images of the wreck.
