ATLANTA -- Georgia's year-over-year foreclosure rate plunged in April, matching a national trend, RealtyTrac reported Thursday.

There were 5,959 foreclosures in the Peach State in April -- down 42 percent year-over-year and down 5 percent from March. The state still had the eighth-highest rate in the nation.

Foreclosure filings were reported on 144,790 properties in the United States in April -- down 5 percent from March and down 23 percent from April 2012. Total foreclosure activity in April marked the lowest level since February 2007 -- a 74-month low.
