WASHINGTON -- The top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee says he wants sworn depositions from the two men who wrote a highly critical report on security at a U.S. outpost in Benghazi, Libya, after last September's deadly attack.
Rep. Darrell Issa tells NBC's Meet the Press that Thomas Pickering refused to testify before his committee.
But on the same program, the seasoned diplomat said that's "not true." Pickering says he was willing to testify to a House panel last week and could have answered many of the questions lawmakers have raised about the incident.
Pickering and former Joint Chiefs chairman Mike Mullen produced a report critical of security in Benghazi, but Pickering says then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton wasn't to blame.
