JONESBORO, Ga. -- Mookie Blaylock, former NBA player for the Atlanta Hawks, was taken off life support shortly after 8:00 p.m., and is now in guarded, but critical condition.

On Friday evening, 11Alive learned from Jonesboro Police Chief Allen that another person involved in the crash died. 41-year-old Monica Murphy of Gwinnett County passed around 10:00 p.m.

The vehicle collision happened just after noon on Friday, near Tara Boulevard and Dixon Road in Clayton County. The wreck, according to Allen, involved a van and a car.

The car, driven by Blaylock, burst into flames on impact.  Murphy was a passenger in the van. There was no word on the condition of the driver of the van.

Blaylock and Murphy were both airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

Saturday morning, Spalding County Sheriff's Captain Tony Ranieri confirmed to 11Alive that a bench warrant for Blaylock was issued on May 21 when he failed to appear in court for an earlier DUI charge.

Blaylock was drafted by the New Jersey Nets in 1989, then played for the Hawks from 1992-1999, closing out his NBA career with Golden State in 2002.  In the mid 90's he became one of a handful of NBA players to lead the league in steals in consecutive seasons.

Blaylock has twin sons who played football at Walton High School in Marietta and are sophomores on the University of Kentucky team.
