Hall County Sheriff's officials say the spectator and the gunman, Saul Merdez Castillo, 41, were both watching the game when they had some type of confrontation. Authorities said one of the men "quickly produced a handgun" and fired multiple times.
Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said the park was crowded with people at the time and the shooting took place in front of other spectators, but no one else was injured.
Castillo was detained and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. In addition, the sheriff's office says Castillo has been placed on immigration hold due to his residency status.
Bond has not been set in the case. Castillo's first appearance has been scheduled for Monday afternoon.
The park is about five miles southeast of downtown Gainesville.
