ATLANTA -- The National Weather Service says parts of north Georgia north of Atlanta are under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A more widespread area of severe thunderstorms is possible on Thursday.

An early round of showers and thunderstorms dropped heavy rains across parts of Metro Atlanta Wednesday morning, causing backups on Atlanta's roads and highways. A lightning strike knocked out power to part of MARTA, forcing buses to shuttle northbound passengers between the Arts Center and Buckhead stations.
