This sketch shows how by rotating where the stadium sits, it could still fit in the south site without moving the church.

ATLANTA -- 11Alive News has obtained an internal memo that hints the city may move forward with a new stadium and leave historic Friendship Baptist Church alone.

COO Duriya Farooqui stated time is running out before designers need to start working on specifics of the new stadium.
"The negotiation with Friendship Church has not yielded a resolution and no further delays can be absorbed into the timeline," Farooqui said.

What may be problematic for the congregation is that the new rendering wipes out Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

After looking at the plans, Friendship Baptist Church spokesperson Lloyd Hawk said the new plans would put the stadium "very close" to the church.

"It's surprisingly close," he told 11Alive's Blayne Alexander. But he said it's not enough to make the church reconsider their asking price.

"I think that if the city is going to get rid of the street between the stadium and the church and just put a walkway, that they would make sure that the stadium noise does not interrupt Sunday services."

The city said it offered Friendship Baptist $15.5 million to move, but the church now wants $24.5 million.

Both sides say negotiations are continuing.
