Suspect shoots clerk at Poncey-Highland store
ATLANTA -- It was a senseless and violent crime and it was all caught on video. A store clerk was shot while trying to run away from two suspects who tried to rob him.
It happened at the Exxon convenience store at 1161 Ponce De Leon Avenue Monday night. Atlanta police said two men walked into the store at around 11:30PM and pulled a gun on the clerk in an apparent robbery attempt. "It appears that the two suspects were waiting outside the store for a period of time before entering," said Officer John Chafee. "There was some type of conversation with the clerk and the clerk was shot."
The shooting was captured on the stores surveillance video obtained by 11 Alive News. The video shows one suspect walk up to the counter and say something to the clerk, Jack Alieu, 46, of Atlanta. Alieu tried to run away from the gunman. The video shows the gunman fired one shot at the clerk as he ran away.
"It doesn't appear that they took anything, they just shot the clerk and then fled," Officer Chafee said.
The man with the gun was wearing a black ball cap, and a shirt the read "Swag Don't Come Cheap." Another suspect was wearing a black skull cap, a black sleeveless vest and a striped short-sleeve shirt.
