NEWNAN, Ga. -- Coweta County authorities have found a missing 78-year-old woman.
Eleanor Alexander was found late Tuesday morning and taken to Atlanta Medical Center for examination.
She was found in a patch of woods about a mile from her home.
Friends describe her as determined and spunky and it seems those attributes helped her survive three and a half days alone in the woods.
For four days, friends, family and total strangers passed out flyers, said prayers, and knocked on doors.
Through it all the family remained positive they would find Eleanor Alexander alive.
It was Tracy Sargent and her dog Cinco that found Alexander, conscious but cold. Coweta County deputies say her body temperature was only 80 degrees.
Deputies say she was trying to crawl over some barbed wire and got stuck.
Her family doesn't know how much she remembers, because she's so dehydrated she can't talk. But so far, the injuries seem minor.
Alexander does have dementia, and lives alone. But her family says that will no longer be the case.
