CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. -- Trident Seafoods will open a new processing facility in Carroll County, bringing 175 jobs to the area.
Governor Nathan Deal announced the seafood harvesting and processing company's expansion on Wednesday.
"Georgia is the logical place for Trident Seafoods to expand its East Coast operations," Deal said in a statement. "From our highway system that allows trucks to reach 80 percent of the U.S. market in two days to our highly trained workforce, the state offers a wealth of resources to help Trident reach its business goals."
The state-of-the-art processing facility will make frozen and portion-controlled seafood items. It will be located in a 104,000-square-foot building formerly used by Chiquita.
Hiring for the new facility is expected to begin in mid-2014.
"We are very happy to be expanding our business in Carroll County, Georgia, and we're looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with the citizens of Carrollton," Trident Seafoods executive vice president Joe Bundrant said in a statement.
