STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- DeKalb County Fire Rescue crews were called to two apartment fires within the same complex Tuesday morning.
Two calls, around 30 minutes apart came in around 3:25 and just before 4:00.
Crews arrived to at the Wynview Apartments in Central Drive find heavy flames taking over units on the building's second floor.
Assistant Chief Steve Ham said there were no injuries in the one alarm fire, and everyone is safe. Red Cross was called to help between 40 - 45 people who lost their apartment home in the fire. The entire building was left inhabitable.
When crews arrived they immediately began to fight the flames before they spread to other buildings.
The apartments have rudimentary fire walls mostly made out of sheet rock, Ham said. That offered some help to firefighters, but they had to lay a water route from Central Drive to battle the heavy flames and smoke.
A vacant home across the street was unharmed, Ham said.
