Suspect sprays clerk with pepper spray
Monica Goes, 25, of Stockbridge
MCDONOUGH, Ga -- A Henry County convenience store clerk stared down the barrel of a gun while he was being robbed. He escaped alive but not without injury. Police said the suspect sprayed the clerk in the face with pepper spray before fleeing.
The robbery was captured on surveillance video from the Shell convenience store on Jodeco Road in McDonough. It showed a suspect walking into the store and up to the counter where he pulled out a gun and demanded money from the cash register.
A stunned clerk stood frozen while the suspect gave him orders. Then as the clerk handed the suspect the money, the suspect sprayed him with pepper spray. "Maybe he used it as a distraction so he could get away quickly," said Henry County Police Sgt. Joey Smith. "Or maybe just so he could distract the clerk so the clerk couldn't call 911."
The suspect walked out of the store and got into the back seat of a black 200 Jeep Cherokee with Georgia tag PEB-1725. A female suspect was seen getting into the front driver's seat before the car pulled away.
Police have identified her as Monica Goes, 25, of Stockbridge. She is wanted for her role in the robbery, according to Sgt. Smith. "My experience would tell me that this individual will keep doing this until he's caught so we're worried about that," he said. "Hopefully the public can give us a call and lead us in the right direction to get these guys off the street."
If you can identify the male suspect or know where Monica Goes is call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
