ATLANTA -- Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has announced the schools that made the state's SHAPE Honor Roll during the 2012-13 school year.
The SHAPE Honor Roll program recognizes schools that work hard to curb childhood obesity. It challenges students and teachers to make improvements in three key areas: nutrition, wellness and physical activity.
"I would like to thank the families, faculty and staff for their continued commitment to promoting an active lifestyle among students," Deal said in a statement. "We are seeing signs of improvement as the SHAPE program continues to grow, but there is still much work to be done."
Of Georgia's SHAPE Honor Roll schools, 51 received gold medals, 41 got silver and 15 earned bronze.
