ATLANTA - Oct. 8, 2013 - Battling breast cancer is tough. Battling breast cancer two times is incomprehensible. In between her first and second breast cancer diagnosis, Marilyn Norris signed up to walk 60 miles in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® and she has not stopped walking since. This month, Marilyn will be walking proudly as a breast cancer survivor amongst thousands of other women and men who want to be a part of something bigger - ending breast cancer forever.

"I know so many mothers, sisters and children that have lost their battle with breast cancer. I walk because I know that I am alive and able to do so for all of those who are unable to do so for themselves," said Norris. "I want to do my part to put an end to the disease."

Atlanta area residents are encouraged to visit designated sites to cheer on Marilyn and other 3-Day participants as they walk 60 miles in three spirited days. Passionate 3-Day walkers dedicate months of training and preparation in order to participate in the event. Participants raise a minimum of $2,300 and walk an average of 20 miles a day for three consecutive days, educating tens of thousands of people about breast health and raising funds to help support breast cancer research and community outreach programs with every step.

"Every 74 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer," said Sheri Phillips, national spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. "Atlanta 3-Day participants are bringing their passion and perseverance to the Atlanta community in hopes to end this disease.  We invite the Atlanta community to come out and support their fellow neighbors and area-residents as they walk 60-miles in the fight to end breast cancer. "
