A Fulton County Superior Court judge sentenced 44-year-old Maria Owens Thursday on charges of murder, aggravated assault and child cruelty in the death of 11-month-old Jaylen Kelly.
Officials say Owens ran a daycare out her Fairburn home, where Kelly was found unresponsive June 1, 2011.
When questioned by investigators, Jones says Owens told them she hit Kelly a few times on the side to clear up his cough.
Medical professionals testified that Kelly suffered a very hard bow to his back that caused internal bleeding and left him with a fractured spine. Blunt force trauma was cited as the baby's cause of death.
