DUNWOODY -- State Farm Insurance Company is expanding its operations in Metro Atlanta with a national operations center in Dunwoody that will join two other hubs in Dallas and Phoenix.
The new facility will be built on a nearly four-acre site at Hammond Drive and Perimeter Center Parkway, across from the Dunwoody MARTA station.
State Farm is not saying much publicly about a major expansion, but it's putting Dunwoody on its national map with a major customer service and claims center.
Along with the expansion will be a substantial number of new jobs.
The Insurance Carrier already has more than 3,500 employees in the Metro.
The expansion is coming as a boon to Dunwoody business development.
The City's Economic Director calls the State Farm plan a core for development of a corporate campus along the Perimeter, providing quick access to the Dunwoody MARTA station and major Interstates.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle says the Perimeter's corporate expansion could top $1-billion.
For State Farm, its new hub may be just the tip of the iceberg.
"We have about 30 acres that have been purchased and we are currently leasing about 1.7-million square feet of space that is going to continue to expand from there," said Justin Tomczak with State Farm, Atlanta.
No word yet on when the new hub will open.
The Company also has an Operations Center in Johns Creek with more than 2,000 customer service and support employees.
