MACON, Ga. -- The U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia says he will investigate the death of Valdosta teen Kendrick Johnson.

Johnson was found dead inside a rolled-up wrestling mat in a Valdosta high school's gym in January.

Thursday, U.S. Attorney Michael Moore said he personally reviewed the documents in the case and believes there is enough to conduct a formal investigation.

Moore also said he is asking anyone with information about the case to contact the U.S. Attorney's office in Macon.

Moore said his office was contacted by family shortly after sheriff's office closed the investigation and they requested a review.

Moore's office requested and received full investigation reports, pictures, videos, statements and other documents and there are several questions to be answered:

1. What was cause of Johnson's death
2. Was death result of a crime?
3. If the result of crime, who committed it?
4. Who has jurisdiction to investigate?

Moore added, the FBI is cooperating and should it be necessary, "I will direct them to open civil rights investigation."

"I will follow the facts wherever they lead... my objective is to discover the truth" Moore said.  "I will follow facts, apply law and protect independence and objectivity of this ongoing investigation."

Wednesday, a judge ruled video be released showing cameras around the gym just before Johnson's death.
