MARIETTA, Ga. -- Southern Polytechnic State University students will take to the streets Tuesday to protest a planned merger with Kennesaw State University.
The students will protest at noon at Trinity United Methodist Church in Downtown Atlanta, across the street from the University System of Georgia building.

SPSU students and alumni have been vocal in their opposition of the merger since it was announced earlier this month. Thousands of people have signed a petition against what they call a "hostile takeover" of the Marietta school.
"The university system has been tasked with increasing transparency. We feel that this decision was made behind closed doors and without adequate research into the efforts on the educational culture," the group Keep SPSU and KSU Separate said in a release. "We are only asking that the board do their due diligence before initiating a plan of this magnitude."
