WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- American University was locked down Wednesday evening for the report of a man with a gun on campus.
The university and D.C. police both tweeted around 9:20 p.m. that the lockdown was lifted and no students were hurt. American University tweeted one person was in custody.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said a person on the university bus saw a person with a holster and called it in.
There was no crime, and no display of a weapon, according to Metropolitan police. Police believe the person was an off-duty police officer.
The university tweeted the lockdown and shelter in place shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
American University and D.C. police were investigating near Gray Hall on Nebraska Ave.
AU police tweeted a photo of two people and urged anyone who's seen them to call police at 202-885-3636. It's unclear at this point if these people have any connection to this specific incident.
The university's alert system said "a citizen reported to campus police that they saw a man with a gun."
