Marietta woman killed in wreck involving a police officer

MARIETTA, Ga. -- An 88-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she turned her car into the path of an unmarked Marietta Police Department vehicle.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. on Powder Springs Road near Bellemeade Road.

Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said Evelyn Lyle of Marietta was killed attempting to make a left turn. A front seat passenger, 66-year- old Michael Lyle, was injured and is listed in critical condition. Maj. Cliff Kelker, the driver of the police vehicle, was not injured.

Officer Baldwin said there are no charges pending. The crash remains under investigation.
