ATLANTA -- A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of north Georgia and metro Atlanta from Sunday night into Monday morning.  This advisory replaces the Winter Storm Watch that was previously in effect.  The counties in the Winter Weather Advisory are Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattooga, Gordon, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Polk, Paulding, Cobb, Haralson, Carroll, Douglas and Heard.

We have already experienced some pockets of light rain this morning.  Temperatures moved to 40 degrees at noon Sunday.  That was the first time we've hit 40 since Thursday afternoon.   Temperatures warm into the upper 40s this afternoon.

The main area of rain moves in late Sunday night.  As the cold air comes in behind it, we will see a brief changeover to snow flurries overnight Sunday into Monday morning.  We don't expect accumulations in Atlanta.  We could have some accumulations in north and northwest Georgia of around an inch.  We  have to watch for black ice to develop as the cold air will push in before much of the water is able to dry up.  High temperatures Monday will only be 26.

This will be some of the coldest air that we have seen in a long time.  We do expect a low of 6 degrees Tuesday morning with a high Tuesday of only 25.  There is a Wind Chill Advisory in effect Monday night into Tuesday morning with wind chills between 5 below zero and 15 below zero.  We will have an extended period with temperatures below freezing.  It will be below freezing late Sunday night into Wednesday afternoon.

This comes after parts of the metro and lots of north Georgia saw snow Friday morning.

Temperatures dipped into the teens with wind chills feeling as low as -5.

Drivers had to watch out for black ice on their morning commute and hundreds were without power as trees fell from strong winds.
