COBB COUNTY-- A six-month manhunt for the suspect responsible for shooting a Cobb County police officer ended with the arrest of 19-year-old Shymel Young.
On July 12th, Cobb County police officer D. Rogers approached a suspicious person on Hurt Road in Smyrna. When the man started running, the officer chased him. The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the officer. The bullet became lodged in his bullet-proof vest and may have saved his life.

Police swarmed the area. Road checks were set up and witnesses were questioned. The morning rush hour through Smyrna slowed to a crawl in some areas, but no one was arrested.
The National Police Defense Foundation joined the Atlanta Crime Stoppers for a total reward of $15,000. Clear Channel donated a billboard at the corner of South Cobb Drive and Cranfill Road in Marietta.
In November, officer Rogers told 11Alive's Kevin Rowson he wouldn't rest until the man who shot him was arrested. "If he'd do this to an officer in a uniform, he'd to it to anybody," Rogers said. "He's a threat to anybody out there right now."
Cobb County made the announcement about the arrest Friday evening. Young is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. He's being held without bond at the Cobb County jail.
