(USA Today) -- First lady Michelle Obama turned 50 today and she's OK with it.
So much so, the social-media-savvy FLOTUS tweeted a picture of herself smiling wide and holding her AARP card.
But she couldn't help giving her husband, 52-year-old President Obama, a teasing dig in the process.
"Excited to join Barack in the 50+ club today... check out my AARP card!," her tweet read.
Birthday greetings to Obama flooded social media, some from her high-profile pals.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY @FLOTUS @MichelleObama - May the joy, hope, confidence and courage you inspire in others be returned to you all year long! XO," tweeted Scandal star Kerry Washington.
Singer/actress Audra McDonald tweeted that it's also the "late great Eartha Kitt's and the very much here & great @FLOTUS birthday. This is a day of greatness indeed!"
Mrs. O has been describing herself as "50 and fabulous" in the weeks leading up to her birthday. She told People magazine, in one of her few interviews, that she is more "self-assured" now that she's 50.
"Each decade brings a greater sense of calm and certainty and maturity and confidence," she said.
AARP, the venerable association of retired people, is so excited she's joined the club it presented her with a membership card and a special edition birthday mock cover of AARP The Magazine.
She spent today out of sight, after a busy week, and is expected to be feted at a birthday dance party at the White House on Saturday night, according to multiple media reports in Washington.
It's a private affair so the White House isn't talking about who is on the guest list, who is performing or any other details, but guests reportedly were told to eat before arriving and come prepared to dance.
And those rumors that good friend Beyoncé will be singing at the party? Valerie Jarrett, a senior White House adviser who's tight with FLOTUS, isn't commenting. But, as AP pointed out, Bey's husband Jay Z performed in Washington on Thursday night.
Last month, in a pre-Christmas visit to a children's hospital with her Portuguese water dogs, Bo and Sunny, Obama hinted about her birthday plans, telling a child, "It might involve some dancing. A little Dougie."
