ATLANTA -- A Facebook group created to help victims of metro Atlanta's paralyzing snowstorm gained national attention on NBC's Today Show on Thursday.

"We found a great story that popped up online," said NBC's Carson Daly. "You have people getting help thanks to this Facebook group."

Michelle Sollicito of Marietta created SnowedOutAtlanta during the worst of the snowstorm after checking Facebook on Tuesday night.

"She sees people offering help and people asking for help, but they weren't connected," Daly said.

SnowedOutAtlanta hit such a chord that it had more than 50,000 members in 24 hours.

Daly read several posts on the air:

"Jeanne posted this: She and her family walked two miles on I-75 just to pass out snacks. Everybody started to lend a hand."

"Adam Moore writes this: I've got my phone in hand and my bag. I'm gonna be on foot passing out to whoever's in need."

"This was one that we saw that we really liked. Valencia posts: My sister's been stuck in her car since 4:30 p.m. yesterday. Nothing to eat. She's out of gas, diabetic, doesn't have her meds. Can somebody please help? Sure enough, moments later she writes, 'Thank you, found her, someone gave her gas, I've convinced her to stay where she is. Thanks for the food and juice. Good people still left in this world.'"

Daly went on to describe SnowedOutAtlanta as a silver lining in the storm.
