DECATUR, Ga. -- Fire investigators say a makeshift warming device is to blame for a fire that caused heavy damage to a DeKalb County house Thursday morning.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight at a house in the 2700 block of Midway Road.
DeKalb County Fire Capt. Eric Jackson said two people were home at the time. Both residents managed to escape the fire.
Neighbors reported hearing a noise that sounded like shotgun shells going off inside the house, but Jackson said investigators did not find any ammunition inside the burned home.
Jackson said the fire damaged about 60 percent of the house. Most of the damage was contained to the interior.
