DeKalb officer may have been wounded by friendly fire

DECATUR, Ga. - A 23-year veteran DeKalb County Police officer who was wounded in a Lithonia shooting Thursday afternoon may have been injured by friendly fire.

Sgt. Nicole Hines was shot in the ankle while responding to an attempted burglary call in Lithonia. Authorities say one of the suspects smashed through the home's garage door and sped toward Hines and other officers surrounding the house.

Three suspects are in custody -- 19-year old Quintavous Dennis, 20-year-old James Montez and 23-year-old Dorian Pursely are facing several charges related to yesterday's incident.

While the case remains under investigation, authorities confirmed to 11Alive News that no shots were fired by the suspects. Sgt. Hines remains hospitalized in good condition.
