ATLANTA -- Ice and snow are believed be behind the collapse of the historic Daughters of the American Revolution building in Midtown Atlanta on Wednesday night.

The house, which had been abandoned, was built in 1911 and stood on Piedmont Avenue across from Piedmont Park.

No one was inside the house, but crews had to pull one person from a duplex next to the historic building.

It is believed that the building collapsed under the weight of snow and ice.

Bert Sanders, the owner of the building, said that he hopes to be able to save the front part of the building. Firefighters said they may have to bring down the rest of the structure.
