CUMMING, Ga. (WXIA) - The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested six people in connection with the burglary of three storage units and the distribution of drugs at a home.
In a release Friday, Sheriff Duane K. Piper said three storage units and a cargo trailer were burglarized at Sawnee Storage, just off of Georgia 20 West at some point between January 27 and 29. Investigators were able to identify a suspect - Joshua L. Williams, 20, of Sugar Hill, from surveillance video. A video was also identified from the video.
Williams was taken into custody after a short chase on February 5 along Settingdown Road in Forsyth County. Investigators said Williams tried to flee from authorities by driving in reverse down the roadway. Williams was arrested and charged with three counts of second degree burglary, three counts of felony theft and criminal trespass, as well as a number of traffic offenses.
Investigators were able to find information that led them to three residences. Stolen items were recovered from a residence on Settingdown Road in Forsyth County. In addition, investigators located lawn care equipment that had been taken from the storage unit at a residence on Jones Bridge Road in Alpharetta.
At the third residence, on Leigh Lane in the northern part of Forsyth County, investigators found a flat screen television that had been taken from one of the storage units. They also uncovered methamphetamine, marijuana and other drug-related paraphernalia.
"This investigation clearly shows the connection between thefts and the drug culture," Piper said in the release. "Our investigators did a good job in following up on all leads, recovering much of the stolen property."
In addition to Williams, five others were arrested: Ashley C. Laird, 26, of Alpharetta; Cody J. Beavers, 21, of Gainesville; Amber L. Nicholson, 23, of Flowery Branch; Brynn A. Grichuck, 27, of Suwanee. Each of those four are presently being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center. The fifth person arrested, Colton R. Beavers, 19, of Gainesville, was released on a $12,265 bond on February 12, and is scheduled to appear in Drug Court on February 24.
