TROUP COUNTY, Ga. -- A fatal accident involving a tractor trailer fire completely shut down Interstate 85 north in Troup County Thursday morning.
The accident happened at around 6:20 a.m. near Mile Post 18.
Georgia Department of Public Safety spokesperson Tracey Watson said one tractor trailer rear-ended another one. The rear big rig caught on fire, killing its driver. His name has not been released.
Dispatchers said the tractor trailer was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.
The driver of the tractor trailer that was hit was taken to West Central Health Center. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
I-85 north is shut down at the scene. Watson said the crash is still under investigation.
