A harsh sentence was handed down on Thursday for the so-called “pantyhose rapist.” The 33-year-old defendant was convicted of committing two violent sexual assaults in Fulton County.
Ali Nejad still faces charges in other cases in Metro Atlanta. The defendant comes from a well-off immigrant family in the Atlanta area, authorities said.
While a number of people spoke in defense of Nejad in court, the judge took little sympathy. He sentenced Nejad to spend the next 35 years behind bars without the possibility of parole. Last year, Nejad kidnapped and sexually assaulted two prostitutes in separate incidents.
He was dubbed the pantyhose rapist because, police say, in most cases, he forced his victims to strip and to put on pantyhose that he brought with him.
The people who spoke in Nejad’s defense said he was remorseful for his actions that that he suffered from a sexual addiction. One plea even came from Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts.
“I know the family, I know the family well. It is a hard-working family. He was a productive member of that family and I would ask and simply have the record reflect that it is a hard-working family, and family-owned business. And that they have been supportive and will be supportive,” Pitts said in court.
Police say they’ve linked Nejad to numerous sexual assaults in the metro area. He will face another trial in Fulton County in February, and he is charged in a similar crime in Henry County.
