Body of Burned Teenager Identified

A 17-year-old girl whose body was found burned alongside a rural road in Clayton County earlier this month has been identified through dental records as Jennifer Lee Chambers of Jonesboro.

Chambers had been reported missing by her family. While an autopsy determined the cause of death, that information is not being released to the public.

Chambers' burned body was found by a police officer along a very rural stretch of Freeman Road near the Henry County border on Sept. 5. It was found in a wooded area in a utility pull-off about 20 feet from the road.

Investigators said an accelerant was used to set the body on fire. The trees above the body had charred leaves as high as 30 feet off the ground.

Chambers was wearing a red tank top, a pair of size 3 Younique jeans, and possibly a multi-colored cloth poncho when she was murdered. Anyone who is an acquaintance of Chambers or anyone with information on the case is asked to call authorities at 770-477-3624.
