Gwinnett County police officials are defending an officer's actions Wednesday night when they said he was forced to taser a 14-year-old girl.
The officer was working a part-time job patrolling a neighborhood in Snellville Halloween night when he spotted a group of teenagers. The officer heard the 14-year-old girl cursing loudly and profusely, authorities said.
The officer asked the girl to stop cursing because of younger children who were trick or treating in the area, at which time the girl used some choice words to curse at the officer.
The officer told the girl that she would be charged with disorderly conduct if she did not stop. The girl cursed the officer again and began to walk off, police said.
When the told the girl to stop and touched her arm, the girl turned around and attempted to punch him in the face. At that time, police said, the officer used physical force to subdue the girl as he called for backup as a large crowd formed around him.
A second officer arrived and assisted the officer in handcuffing the teen, who continued to combat and curse the officers. After repeated verbal commands to stop resisting and cursing, the officer warned the teenage girl to stop or she would be tased.
Authorities said the girl continued to attempt to fight the officers and she also was punching the rear of the officer?s patrol car with her fists. The officer stated she was extremely combative and he was unable to get her into the patrol car.
At some point, the officer tasered the girl. she was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. The girl has been released to the custody of a parent.
