ATLANTA (AP) -- Authorities say Wednesday's wintry weather contributed to a wreck that killed a couple and their child when their car plunged into a west Georgia lake.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Larry Schnall said Benjamin Paul Vines, 45, Shelia Vines, 42, and Benjamin Heath Vines, 13, were killed when the Ford Taurus they were traveling in lost control about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and plunged into Lake Haralson in Haralson County.
He said someone living near the lake heard the crash, ran outside, saw the vehicle in the water and called authorities. Schnall said the car sank in the lake, and rescue workers tried but were unable to save the three.
Schnall said the snow and icy conditions contributed to the wreck.
