Texas Mom Sells Her Own Daughter

Texas police have charged a mother with selling her own daughter.

Archer County Sheriff's Officials and US Marshals are calling it a disturbing case, one they've been working to solve for more than eight months.

Two people are now indicted for the sale or purchase of a child.

Officials say that last August, Windthorst resident Tina Valdez reported her daughter as a runaway. Authorities say Valdez told them her 15-year old daughter left her a letter saying she was leaving to search for her father.

Sheriff's officials later learned the teenager may have left the country with Jason Carlile, a family friend. At the time, Carlile was wanted for indecency with a child and possession of child pornography.

Police say Valdez sold her daughter for $3,000 because she needed the money.

"You don't sell your own children. Especially, you know, a 15-year-old girl shouldn't be exposed to something like that. She's way too young to be exposed to anything that she probably went through," says Archer County Sheriff Ed Daniels.

US Marshalls tracked the girl down in Mexico, and she turned herself over to the US Consulate on April 23rd.

Carlile and Valdez are both in jail, and the girl is now in the care of a foster family in Wichita Falls.
