Atlanta city workers rescued from Peachtree Creek flood waters

Streets were flooded during Wednesday's storms

ATLANTA -- Three city workers had to be rescued, Wednesday, after they became trapped in floodwaters from nearby Peachtree Creek

It happened along Peachtree Battle Avenue and Woodward Way in northwest Atlanta. 11Alive was on the scene where two vehicles were almost completely submerged in flood waters from the nearby creek.

It turns out that one of those vehicles, a work truck, was loaded with barricades that were headed for the other side of that flooded area to prevent motorists from trying to drive through.

The metro area saw an average of two inches of rain in the storm. Much of it in the northwest Atlanta area funneled into Peachtree Creek causing a large overflow and strong currents.

11Alive's Samantha Mohr reported that the water had already reached the foundations of many of the lower-lying homes near the creek in the Peachtree Battle area.

More flooding and rain is expected as storms roll through.
