ROSWELL, Ga. -- A local bus driver is now facing multiple charges after a fatal accident that killed two high school students in Fulton County.
Charles Talmadge Pitts has been charged with failure to yield and two counts of vehicular homicide - both misdemeanors. The warrants are through the Fulton County State Court.
In April, the authorities said Pitts was behind the wheel of the bus that crashed into another car. Inside were Lassiter High School students James and Joe Pratt. The brothers were on the way to the dentist on April 24 when an accident report states that the bus pulled out of a neighborhood and into their path.
James and Joe Pratt were described as kind, motivated, compassionate young men. In between James and Joe, younger sister Lilly also attended Lassiter as a junior. The boys leave behind another sister, Stella, and parents Jamie and Tom.
They were laid to rest on April 30 in a military funeral to honor the brothers' time in the high school Junior ROTC and one brother's commitment to the U.S. Marine Corps.
The bus driver has since been taken off all bus routes until the investigation is complete. The school system said Pitts is devastated over the fatal accident. As of Friday night, authorities said he had not yet turned himself in.
