ATLANTA -- A child found abandoned Monday evening is now safe with family members.
According to Atlanta Police, the child's older sister said she she dropped the 4-year-old and his mother off at the Decatur train station.
A Good Samaritan later saw the child alone near the steps of Atlanta's city jail, police said. The Good Samaritan took the child to the jail and called 911.
Police later made contact with the boy's sister, who said the mother had an addiction problem.
The child was taken to Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital and placed under the care of social workers and the Department of Children and Family Services. The family was en route to pick up the child as of late Monday.
Police are continuing to attempt to locate the child's mother.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
