Commuter Dude: Drivers singing "Happy" on Brownlee Road

S.W. ATLANTA -- It took longer than they wanted, but commuters who use Brownlee Road in S.W. Atlanta are singing "Happy" now that the city has finished a long awaited paving job.

When Abrem Ayana first contacted 11Alive's Commuter Dude in April, Brownlee Road was a mess.

The city of Atlanta had first planned to repave the road in January, but snow and ice delayed the project.

In February, city crews milled the road, leaving a rough surface that eventually produced potholes. Milling is the first step toward repaving, but two months later, there was no change.

Commuter Dude learned the city planned to resume the project in late April. After asking if crews could return to at least patch some of the worst spots, the city did one better. Public Works crews returned two weeks later to lay fresh asphalt.

The city says other projects delayed by the rough winter weather are now all back on track.
