Man shot, killed in Craigslist exchange; suspect at large

"It appears that he came here to do a Craigslist-style type transaction, when the transaction went bad."

SMYRNA, Ga. – Officers responded to a person shot down the street from Cumberland Mall after what they said was supposed to be a Craigslist sale.

Smyrna Police got the call about 1:30 p.m. about a person shot in the Carrabba’s restaurant parking lot just outside the Perimeter, on Cumberland Boulevard.

Police said the victim drove to the restaurant parking lot to meet another man, a seller whom he had met online, on Craigslist.

“It appears that he came here to do a Craigslist-style, type transaction, when the transaction went bad,” Smyrna Police Department spokesman Louis Defense said.

“Some of these individuals that are up to criminal activity, you know, they just don’t have any fear.”

The seller, police confirmed, pulled out a gun and opened fire, taking the victim’s cash and speeding off in his own car.

CPR was administered on the scene; however, the victim died from the gunshot wound on his way to the hospital. Police have not released his identity.

Police said they do not have a suspect in custody and Defense said that detectives are working on releasing a detailed description of the gunman and his getaway car.

“We’re looking for a black male with twists in his hair, and he was last seen driving a small, four-door vehicle, and it had severe oxidation on the trunk,” Defense said.

The Smyrna Police are investigating the case as a homicide.
