2 dead after being struck with baseball bat in Barrow Co.

Police are investigating after two people were found stabbed to death at a Barrow County home on Tuesday.

BRASELTON, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to assist in an ongoing death investigation in the 1100 block of Old Hog Mountain Road in Braselton on Tuesday.

Barrow County Sheriff's Deputies discovered the body of an adult male in a shed on the property.

When officers arrived, they discovered a "belligerent and combative man" with a baseball bat. That individual was arrested following a struggle with deputies.

The GBI says that person subsequently died at the scene.

Investigators said the second person was struck several times with a baseball bat by family members who were trying to intervene in the original fight.

Due to the complexity of the situation, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith requested assistance from the GBI's Athens office. Agents responded to the scene, and have continued to interview witnesses and family members over the course of the evening about the situation.

Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith has been consulted and briefed concerning the investigation. Both deceased individuals will be transported to the GBI's Crime Lab for autopsy.

Additional information was not immediately available.
