CONCORD, Calif. – Police in a one California city are looking for a clown accused of trying to snatch a 1-year-old girl out of her mother’s arms on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Tiffany Martin was waiting at a bus stop in Concord, at about 1:15 p.m., when a man in a clown outfit walked up to them.
“He said ‘Hi – that was it,” Martin told TV station KNTV. “Then he smiled and he said, ‘Aww,’ and he took her hand.”
Police said Martin told them the man began to yank on her baby’s arm.
Martin told police that she kicked the clown in the shin. The suspect then ran off, police said. She told KNTV that while she is relieved she was able to get the clown to leave her and her daughter alone, she is afraid he will go after someone else.
Clown threats have become more common across the United States, with threats to schools and communities in many areas. Local police departments have stepped up patrols, but in many cases, the threats are believed to be hoaxes.
Concord is about 30 miles northeast of San Francisco.
