SMYRNA, Ga. – Police are looking for two men accused of robbing and shooting a man in the Carrabba’s parking lot Monday afternoon in Cobb County and they need the public’s help.
Smyrna Police responded to a person shot down the street from Cumberland Mall after what they said was supposed to be a Craigslist sale at about 1:30 p.m., referring to a person shot in the restaurant’s parking lot just outside the Perimeter, at 2999 Cumberland Blvd.
Police said Mezaio Pickett, of Cobb County, Ga., drove to the restaurant parking lot to meet another man, a seller whom he had met online, on Craigslist.
“It appears that he came here to do a Craigslist-style, type transaction, when the transaction went bad,” Smyrna Police Department spokesman Louis Defense said.
“Some of these individuals that are up to criminal activity, you know, they just don’t have any fear.”
The seller, police confirmed, pulled out a gun and opened fire, taking the victim’s cash and speeding off in his own car.
Upon arriving, officers located 27-year-old Pickett in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
First aid was administered on Pickett on the scene; however, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:29 p.m., at Kennestone Hospital.
The Smyrna Police Criminal Investigation Unit is actively working the homicide case and are looking for two suspects.
“We’re looking for a black male with twists in his hair, and he was last seen driving a small, four-door vehicle, and it had severe oxidation on the trunk,” Defense said.
Suspect No. 1 is a black male, 6’0- to 6’3-tall, thin build, low, cropped haircut, and was last seen wearing a sleeveless North Carolina blue shirt, North Carolina blue shorts, Nike North Carolina edition Michael Jordan sneakers.
Suspect No. 2 is also a black male, with dark skin and small, twist-styled hair, thin build and was wearing glasses.
Police said that the two suspects were last seen fleeing the Cumberland Mall area in an older-model, small, four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, with heavy fading on the trunk.
Their car was last seen on Cumberland Boulevard heading towards Cumberland Parkway at a high rate of speed just before 2 p.m.
Because of the time of the shooting, investigators believe that someone may have witnessed the shooting or may have seen the suspects vehicle fleeing the scene.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen something or may have information about this case to call the Smyrna Police Department at (770) 434-6666 or call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577—TIPS. All information obtained will be kept confidential.
