Crime Stoppers tip leads to firearms, drug seizure

CONYERS, Ga. -- An anonymous tip submitted to Crime Stoppers has led to felony charges against a Rockdale County man as well as a significant firearm and drug seizure.

Conyers police were first tipped off in October that drugs were being sold at a home in the 1900 block of Gibralter Way. From there, Rockdale County Narcotics and Vice investigators began looking into the allegations.

From there, officials were able to set up surveillance on Tony Benton, the resident at that home. That allowed them to catch Benton leaving his home to meet an unidentified man at a local gas station.

Deputies attempted to pull him over as he left the meeting but said that he fled in his vehicle. However he was later caught in front of his home.

Upon checking the vehicle, police found an Interarms .45 caliber handgun and about $3,000.

A warranted search of his home added 125 grams of cocaine, 1.5 grams of ecstasy and 32 grams of marijuana to that initial find.

Officials also found a Smith and Wesson .32 caliber revolver, a 10/22 Ruger rifle and a Hi-Point. 40 caliber Carbine rifle.

Already a convicted felon, Benton was charged in connection with the drug and gun seizure.
