DeKalb Police: Armed dispute between father, son leaves one dead

An apparent disagreement between a father and son in the Stone Mountain area has ended with the father's death, police said early Thursday.

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. --An apparent disagreement between a father and son in the Stone Mountain area has ended with the father's death, police said early Thursday.

 
Officers arriving at the scene in the 700 block of Wetherborn Place found 53-year-old Heran Parkin dead of a gunshot wound at what police believe was some sort of family gathering.
 
"It appears there was some type of domestic incident between a father and son," Lt. Rod Bryant with the DeKalb County Police Department said. "Weapons were drawn and that individual was shot."

Per the preliminary investigation, police said during the dispute, the father retrieved a gun and pointed at his son. In response, Duran produced his weapon and fired striking and killing his father. It was unclear if the son lived at the location.
 
Police said there were several family members were present who may be able to help them understand what led to the fatal disagreement.
 
Police said it does not appear that the son will face any charges.
