Fleeing suspect busted for drugs, firearms in Banks County

BANKS COUNTY, Ga., - On Wednesday, Banks County Deputies responded to the 1000 block of McDonald Circle in Commerce, Ga., for a temporary protection order violation. Once they arrived, they said 29-year-old Jose Cabrera Jr., sped away.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop and Cabrera was arrested for driving with a suspended license and the temporary protection order violation.

While searching the vehicle, deputies found approximately eight ounces of marijuana in a vacuum sealed bag. After searching a home on McDonald Circle, deputies found another five ounces of marijuana, packaging material, scales and other drug related material. Multiple firearms, ammunition, magazines and drug a related object were found during a search at another home on the 100 block of Crestwood Dr.

Cabrera was taken to the Banks County Detention Center where he is also charged with aggravated stalking and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.  He will face additional charges in Jackson County for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

This investigation is ongoing.
