GBI called in to investigate Monroe County deputy-involved shooting

FORSYTH, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in after an officer-involved shooting in Monroe County.

Police said the incident happened in the 4100 block of Johnstonville Road in the city of Forsyth, Ga.

So far, based on investigation by Monroe County authorities, deputies responded to a domestic call around 3 p.m., Friday.

When the deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Richard Treadwell entering a residence. They said he later pointed what deputies believed was a handgun at them two different times.

Deputies then opened fire on Treadwell. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The GBI is now working to uncover new details on the shooting and will turn over their findings to the Monroe County district attorney.
