DALLAS, Ga. -- Police in Dallas say that they shot and tased a man who tried to run over them during an attempted getaway in Dallas late Saturday night.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. when two Dallas police officers responded to what began as a hit-and-run investigation at East Cooper and Park streets. When officers arrived, they found the suspect's vehicle and said that the driver originally complied.
But as the officers told the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, when they approached the car, the driver restarted the vehicle and attempted to run over them.
The GBI, which is now investigating the incident, said that both officers fired at the vehicle several times before pursuing it. The driver wrecked in the 1500 block of Industrial Boulevard North. Officers tased the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Cody McKenzie, and took him into custody.
Officers also found that McKenzie had suffered a wound to his right arm.
He was taken to Kennestone Hospital and later turned over to the Dallas Police Department.
Once the GBI's investigation is complete, their findings will be turned over to the Pualding County district attorney's office for review.
