Mom stabbed in back before kids were taken, spurring Amber Alert

A statewide search has ended for three missing children that authorities believe were abducted out of Newton County.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A statewide search has ended for three missing children that authorities believe were abducted out of Newton County.

A nationwide Amber Alert and statewide Levi’s Call was activated for Isis, Waleek and Le’Ayona Coleman.

Police said they were abducted by 37-year-old Leroy Coleman. An alert was placed out in the public for a black 2002 Ford Expedition with chrome wheels and a Georgia license plate reading QBG2533.

Police later confirmed that the children and the suspect were found in DeKalb County at a Walmart store.

According to police, the suspect stabbed the kid' mother in the back after an argument at their Newton County apartment. They all got in a car and drove to Atlanta where the mom was put out and found her way to Grady Hospital where she alerted police.

That's when the Amber Alert was issued.

The mom remains in fair condition at the hospital.
